Discuss greater than, less than, equal to. Show students how this symbol works with numbers on the smart board. Play an alligator game with them and practice ‘eating’ the greater or lesser number. 

Using a class set of number lines, help students learn how to tell which number is greater or less by its position. Have them practice greater than, less than game with a deck of cards. Teach kids how to play. Let them play the game with each other. K.N.1.8

Students will be given a deck of cards. They will draw two cards and will determine who has the greater number. Also play with determining who has the lesser number. They will record their answers on a recording sheet to practice writing their numbers and symbols.

Assess students knowledge of greater or less or equal by directing them through module 10, lesson 6.

 

Have them not only circle a number that is greater than or less than but also see if they can write the correct symbol.
