Sight Words

Using magnetic letters and boards, give students letters. Practice building sight words.

Play sparkle to review our sight words.  Go on a sight word hunt around the room.

Reading

Fairy Tales

*daily story map, sequence story, and retell story

Talk about what a fairy tale is. Read “The Three Little Pigs” Use felt cut outs to retell the story and sequence events. Do a story map.

Write about our favorite part of the story.

Read “The Three Little Pigs and the Not So Bad Wolf”. Discuss the similarities and differences between the story map of yesterday’s story and this story. Create a venn diagram.

Practice counting syllables from fairytales. Give students their own response sheet.

Read “The Three Bears”

Turn and talk about whether Goldilocks was right or wrong. Do a story map. Practice retelling the story by acting it out! Students will group up and be assigned a part. They will have a script and practice in their group.

Read “Little Red Riding Hood”. Do a story map. Students will draw the beginning, middle, and end of the story and write a word/sentence.

 

 

Afternoon rest time: watch Shrek. Discuss any fairy tale characters we see.

Phonics

Math

Measuring with non-standard units.

Students will practice measuring their school supplies in their box with linking cubes. We will practice estimating, record our guess, and then measure with cubes. Record our answers.

Compare our size to objects in the classroom. Draw things that are smaller, the same, and bigger than us.

Students will use pig rulers to measure the things and characters from the three little pigs story.

 Compare the size of objects and put them in order from biggest to smallest and vice versa.

Measure bugs with cubes and record answers.

Using a number line, practice adding two numbers. Teach how to check answers with manipulatives. Do a color by addition page to help reinforce our strategy.

Science/Social Studies

Student choice of weekly readers/ Complete our butterfly unit as we observe butterflies emerge from their chrysalis.
